Is a new rum which explores ‘mixed race’ identity, ancestral migrations, the colonial industrial complex, senses of home, and the cultures suspended within the 500-year-old rum trade. heRRum is named after my Jamaican father Hiram, and the pronoun assigned to my identity.
heRRum’s nature is multiplicity distilled into a singular entity. Her being is assembled through the mobilisation of known and unknown people. Mixing together personal to planetary relationships to place, land, cultural social systems, and harnessing the hyper mobility of water, sugar and alcohol.
heRRum becomes a somebody in 6 parts;
Part 0: between dispossession and belonging
Part 1: Assembling dispersed protagonists
Part 2: mixing together into a fermenting body.
Part 3: Distilling and retrieving the heart
Part 4: Sitting in dark oak void to grow strong and refined in spirit
Part 5: Bottling. Exchange and consummation by another body…
